Something is wrong with Zachary. I don’t know what it is but he’s off. He keeps gaining more and more weight. He always looks miserable like he’s in pain. He has become a recluse, even with the girls. He spends most days in his bedroom and when he does come out it’s to eat before he goes back into hiding. Normally I wouldn’t care. Why should I care since he’s made it clear that he no longer cares for me? But our daughters are worried about him and they’ve come to me with their worries so I can’t ignore Zachary any longer.
I went to his room to talk to him but he wasn’t there. Through the window I saw him outside just standing around not really doing anything so I went out there to talk to him. Thankfully he didn’t run off.
“What’s the matter with you?”
“I wanted some fresh air so I decided to take a walk around the yard.” He said.
“I didn’t ask you what you were doing here, I asked what’s the matter. I don’t have time for the back and forth Zachary. There’s obviously something wrong so just spill it. Are you sick? Depressed? The girls are worried about you. Everyone can see the way you look and you don’t look or act like you’re healthy so what is the problem?”
He still didn’t say anything so I kept prodding.
“Dammit Zachary! I know you’re keeping some kind of secret from us so just say it. I’m not leaving here until you…”
“Stop joking around! I’m being serious here!”
“I am serious. I’m seriously pregnant Gemma. I have a baby inside of me!”
I blankly stared at him reading his expression for any sign of laughter that would reveal he was pranking me only all I could see on his face was embarrassment and bewilderment. “You’re telling the truth, aren’t you?”
“Duh! You think I’d make this up?” He groaned.
“How did this happen? Men can’t get pregnant! It’s not possible!”
“It is if it’s an alien baby!”
“But how…?” And then the realisation came to me. “You were abducted.”
“Yes. The night of the staff party was when it happened. I got home just after 9 and then I heard this strange sound and when I looked up I saw a space ship hovering above me and this bright light shot down nearly blinding me.”
“I tried to run but then I felt like it was pulling me upwards and before I knew it I was a few feet in the air while still scrambling to get away. That was the last thing I remember.”
“Oh Watcher!” I exclaimed.
“The next thing I remember was suddenly being in the yard feeling light-headed and dazed. I don’t even remember making it to my bed. The next morning I felt fine. I thought it was a bad dream or maybe I did have too many drinks at the party and ended up hallucinating. But soon I started noticing changes in my body. My stomach started growing and every time it did there was a sharp debilitating pain that radiated throughout my body and then this light that came out of my stomach.”
“Yeah, a bright light and then I’d notice my stomach protruding a little more than it was before and the pain would go away and then I’d get hungry and feel like pigging out. Do you know how many pizzas I secretly ordered and ate all by myself in my room? I went to see a doctor so I could find out what was wrong and that’s when he did an ultrasound and I saw it for myself. A baby! He referred me to a scientist buddy of his who dealt with situations like this. He told me that my body would keep expanding as the baby grows inside me and then in a matter of months I would give birth.”
“How would you give birth exactly?”
“He said the babies usually teleport out of the body so thank Watcher I don’t have to push anything out of who knows where! But…Gem…I just…I don’t understand why this happened to me?”
“I’ve heard about men being abducted by aliens from Sixam and some of them ending up pregnant. They did that a lot back in my grandmother’s day when they wanted to see if babies of their kind could survive on our planet.”
“I know all of that. I also know that they stopped doing that stuff now that their people can live here freely since signing the treaty with the government. Only men who volunteer for it can be probed and impregnated so why did they take me against my will?! Why? Why would they do this? What am I going to do? I’m going to be an elder soon and now I’m having a baby? This is too much!”
He started crying. I would too if I learned I was having some kind of alien baby growing inside of me. “Just relax. Look, this sucks, I’ll give you that. But there’s nothing we can do to change what’s happened. You just have to ride this out and then when the baby comes out you can just… give it back.”
“Give it back?”
“Yes, I’m sure you have the option to send the child back to Sixam if you don’t want it or maybe you can give it to that scientist guy and then you can pretend like it never happened. It’ll only be a matter of months before you can get your life back to normal.”
“I…I guess you’re right but… I’m just a little scared…”
“Look, don’t worry okay. You have us to support you through this, me and the girls. I know we’re going to get divorced and we don’t talk anymore but that doesn’t mean I don’t still care about you. I’ll help you through this, okay?”
“Thanks, Gem. I appreciate this.” He went back inside while I remained in the same spot digesting everything I heard. Zachary was pregnant with an alien baby after being abducted and then returned by Sixamians. I can’t believe this happened!
This was not part of the plan!
When I went to Sixam a few months ago I had something else in mind for Zachary that didn’t involve him becoming impregnated. I got the call to go to Sixam to collect certain items that the government needed for their experimental research division. Members of each generation in our family are expected to travel to Sixam to acquire certain items.
When I got there I met the ambassador designated to escort during my visit. Her name was Nupita and she was also a renowned scientist on the planet. We discussed many things while I was there, one of them being that her team was looking for male earthlings to volunteer for their study program. These earthlings would be expected to move to Sixam permanently and have harmless experiments performed on them for the sake of their research. The earthlings would live comfortably and free on the planet but they will never return home.
“We do not have enough volunteers. It would seem as though some earthlings do not mind coming here temporarily but they do not wish to leave their lives behind.”
“How old does one have to be to be a volunteer?” I asked her.
“We are not selective when it comes to volunteers. The more diverse the better. Any age will do.”
“I know someone who wants to volunteer for this program. He would love to live here for the rest of his life.”
“That is good. Are you sure he wants this?”
“This is good!” She exclaimed. “You must come with me so you can give my assistant his details. We will need to have his coordinates so we will know where to find him.”
“I’ll give you all the information you need.”
“I am grateful to you Gemma Sloane. You have done me a huge favour.”
“Oh, it is you who has done me a favour Nupita. I am grateful to you for allowing me to present him with such an amazing opportunity!”
And that was how I signed Zachary up to be abducted by the aliens and forced to live on Sixam for the rest of his life. He would have simply disappeared one night, never to be seen again. The girls would think he had abandoned them. Even Adalynn would be heartbroken by her lover leaving her behind and breaking all of his promises to her. And Zachary would have to spend the rest of his days separated from the ones he loved just as I was. Now he would know what I went through while I was locked away in prison and he was having fun on the side with his play thing while pretending to be a devoted husband! And I would have the sweet satisfaction in knowing that he was suffering lightyears away while I was content in my home watching my daughters grow into women.
It was so perfect!
So why did those Sixamians muck up my plan by sending him back and that too with a baby inside of him?
At least I can get some revenge through his situation. I mean, now he gets to feel what it was like for me when I was pregnant with his kids only it seems a whole lot worse for him which actually does give me some satisfaction.
Now the only thing left for me to worry about is how I’m going to get those Sixamians to take back their spawn when that thing comes out. Certainly they don’t think we would want to keep that thing. My head was spinning. I couldn’t even enjoy Zachary’s misery properly because his problem was now affecting me.
I needed a drink!
