“I don’t know…what do you think, P?”

“Hm? It’s nice.” She barely tore her eyes away from the TV screen so I knew she didn’t get a proper look at what I was trying to show her. “You’re so helpful…” I groaned.

“Come on, I’m trying to beat this level before I go to the gym.”

I only wanted a second opinion on this logo Kyleigh came up with. It was nice but I wasn’t excited about it. It seemed kinda bland. Maybe the colour scheme was just wrong? I was the only one being picky. Steve and Abike thought it looked great. “Maybe I’m over thinking this.” I muttered to myself.

“Probably. I wish you were this picky when it came to men.” She snickered.

“Bitch!”

“Just get rid of the pink in the background. That’s what’s throwing it off.”

Huh. She was right. I guess she did look at it after all. “Thanks.”

“YES, HA!” She grunted excitedly and then dropped the controller like it was a mic. “In yo’ face!”

“Congrats on killing all those zombies.”

“Don’t forget the mid-level boss too. That was exhilarating. I think I’m all warmed up for my workout now. Ev’s got something here. We’ll make a lot of money on that game.”

“We?” I grinned. “Counting his pennies already, gold-digger?”

“Yeah, well we’re gonna have a lot of joint expenses soon.” She smiled in a way like she was trying to hint at something. It took me a minute to finally catch on. “You mean…?”

“Yup, we’re getting married!”

“O-M-G!” I gasped, inwardly chiding myself for sounding so much like Kyleigh. “When did this happen?!”

“Only last night. I already told Mom and Dad. I would have told you too if you were home but you’re so busy these days.”

“I was meeting with the team…” We got a few donations already but we had to iron out our strategies to ensure we got the right amount of pledges we needed to make a proper start. “I’m so happy for you guys!”

“Thanks.” She said before grabbing the ring off her dresser to show me. “I took it off since I can’t wear it to practice but…isn’t it pretty?”

“It’s gorgeous, P!”

“I didn’t even expect it!” She beamed. “It was a total surprise…even though he was acting funny all night but Ev’s always a little weird so I didn’t think much of it.”

“Well…spill the deets!”

She giggled and then began telling the story, “So…he took me to Ivy’s. No surprise there, we always go there once a month cause he likes their fresh mozzarella. Anyway, he was just sitting there and then he started talking about cats.”

“Cats?”

“Yeah, cats.” She chuckled while rolling her eyes. “His friend’s cat just made a litter and was giving them away. I told him to go for it. He said he needed me to pick out one with him. I told him I’m not a cat person so I really didn’t care which one he got.”

“And then..?”

“And then he got all pouty and said we could get a puppy instead. I asked why he wanted a pet so bad especially since he already lives in a zoo as it is with Cohen and his girlfriend fighting all the time, and pregnant Aspen with Troy’s broke ass mooching off of their mom, who’s actually getting really forgetful in her old age. The other day she left the shower on and nearly flooded out the entire upstairs…then he announced he was gonna move out.”

P was rambling. The usual whenever she has an interesting story to tell. “You wanna get to the proposal part sometime today?”

“I’m getting to it!” She scoffed. “Anyway…he said he wanted me to move in with him. I said no because I’m not gonna live with a guy if we’re not married. And then I suggested that we get married since we’d been together for so long and all. Then he got pissed, saying I always cut him off and didn’t let him finish what he wanted to say.”

“I’d be pissed too.” I chuckled. “You asked the man to marry you before he could, and in a non-romantic way at that.”

“How was I supposed to know he was gonna go there?” She shrugged. “He was talking about kittens and getting an apartment.”

“I’m sure it was all supposed to be a charming segue into the proposal. You know, describing the life he wants to have with you before actually popping the question?” The girl can be so clueless sometimes. I swear, she doesn’t have a romantic bone in her body.

“Hmm…I didn’t think of it like that at the time. Anyway, I got up to leave because I was NOT gonna let him yell at me in the middle of my mother’s restaurant”

“Poppy! Seriously?” I laughed out loud. Poppy was the master of a dramatic exit. It was her go-to move whenever they had a fight. Probably because she knew he would always follow her.

“But then he stopped me and dropped to one knee…”

“…then he said ‘you’re not going anywhere, even though you completely ruined the moment’. And he pulled out the ring and said, ‘Poppy, I knew I wanted to marry you ever since that day you convinced me to show you my penis.'”

I laughed harder. “He said that?!”

“Uh-huh, and then he said ‘I knew then that you were the only girl I’d do anything for. Even if you are a pain in the ass sometimes, you make me happier than anyone else in the world and I can’t imagine my life without you in it. Will you marry me?’”

Damn. That was the weirdest proposal speech I’ve ever heard and yet oddly sweet and befitting of Poppy and Everett as a couple. It was so them. And I couldn’t believe my little sister was going to get married to a guy that was so perfect for her.

They fight like siblings, they have fun and confide in each other like best friends, and they have wild sex like porn stars. The things I’ve heard from the other side of her bedroom door! She doesn’t give me any details but let’s just say it’s a good thing Mom and Dad’s bedroom is downstairs.

I admire them. Sure, it hasn’t been all sunshine and rainbows for them either. They’ve had their ups and downs in the last seven years but their love for each other is what motivates them to work through it and not give up. They have the kind of relationship that my parents have – the kind I want someday.

I was so happy for her.

And yet, I couldn’t help but feel just a little jealous.

I know it’s selfish to feel this way but it seems like everyone around me is coupling up all of a sudden. Even Kyleigh and Steve. They started dating not too long after the Green Initiative went bust. Steve told me he asked her out the same night and they’ve been dating ever since.

Now whenever the three of us hang out they can’t keep their hands off each other. It’s super cute seeing them like that especially since I’ve been rooting for Kyleigh to reciprocate Steve’s feelings all along.

But it’s a little annoying being the third wheel, to be honest.

Poppy and Everett started planning their wedding and Mom, Dad and Aunt T are stoked to help them with it. Mom’s even talking about doing the cake and Aunt T has a few florists picked out already. They want to get married before the end of summer so they can have a decent honeymoon before basketball season starts.

He also started spending the night a lot now that they’re engaged. Sometimes he’d stay for a couple days at a time.

“Hey, Ollie. Want a drink?”

“Sure.”

He handed me a glass of something red but it wasn’t wine. “What is this?”

“I was experimenting with cranberry juice, gin and tonic.”

“Why serve it in a wine glass though?”

He shrugged. “Looks prettier that way. You like it?”

“It’s nice.” It tasted like shit. A little heavy handed with the gin but I’m supposed to be nice to my future brother-in-law, right?

“I want it to be the signature cocktail at the wedding.” He announced proudly. Hopefully, Poppy will step in and nix that idea.

“So…uh…you guys settle on a wedding planner or you’re gonna do it yourselves?”

“We hired Sean.” He said.

“Sean?” The mere mention of his name gave me a weird feeling in my chest.  “He doesn’t do weddings…”

“But he knows how to throw a boss party and Pop and I want something fun and not so traditional.”

Sean did say he was willing to take any job that would help his event planning business and if they wanted non-traditional then he could do that. I can already see how well that would go over with my very traditional mother.

He called me a few times since the incident but I’ve been ignoring his calls because I was still a little embarrassed by the whole thing. We even had a brief run in once downtown but I made some lame excuse for why I couldn’t stay and chat with him and left.

“….and then we’ll release huge white balloons just before the fireworks.” Everett continued rambling about his ideas for the wedding.

I didn’t hear most of it because I was thinking about Sean, but a few keywords like “bonfire”, “popcorn machine” and “balloons” told me all I needed to know. “What does Poppy think about these ideas?”

“Sean asked the same question.” He laughed. “Why? Are they not good?”

“I…think you should discuss it with her. Get on the same page. Your wedding day should go the way you both want, right?”

“True. I’ll tell her tonight when she comes home.”

“You know Ev, I’m really happy for you and Poppy. I guess you’ve always been a part of this family so…it’s nice that it’ll be official soon.”

“Thanks.” He beamed. “That means a lot to me.”

“Just promise me you’ll keep my sister happy.”

“Of course I will.” He pulled me into a hug. “You know, I always wanted a sister and now I’m getting two!”

“You already have a sister. Aspen, remember?”

“Yeah, but, she’s a real bitch sometimes.”

He got me there.

I did always want a brother. I remember asking Mom for one when I was little but she said she couldn’t have any more babies after Poppy. When the two of them got together I was sure it wouldn’t last due to the circumstances of how they got together. They managed to prove me wrong and that gave me hope. If they can make it work as a couple after such a rough start then what’s stopping me? Why am I settling for being a third wheel? I’m not exactly doing anything about my situation, am I?

I mean, I’m young and hot and I’ve got a lot to offer. I needed to put myself out there. It’s the only way I’ll find my one. Who knows, maybe he’ll come around when I least expect it?

Yes, I realise Poppy’s work outfit looks more like a football (soccer) uniform than a basketball uniform but for some reason she would not cooperate and change out of her work clothes and into the basketball outfit I planned for her so it had to do. I wish the athlete career would let you choose a sport for your Sim so their outfits will coincide with the type of sport they play.
